Meal Program

Prepare a Meal for the Women of Delores
The evening meal is sometimes our guests' only meal that day, so it takes on an even greater significance than we might imagine. We especially need volunteers to provide meals on the weekends.

What to bring: Main dish and any side dishes, condiments and desserts you would like to share. We are able to refrigerate until preparation time, if necessary.

Want to serve and/or share the meal with us?
You are welcome to stay and share the meal with us on Saturday or Sundays. We welcome your company and conversation. We can provide a brief introduction to homeless issues and take-away materials if this is appropriate for your group. Let us know in advance so we can be prepared.
Space and privacy issues make it better for groups of more than six to arrange visits during daytime hours. Photographs may only be taken in coordination with the staff and with the consent of each person, please!

Number of people to be fed: 55
Time the evening meal is served: 7:00 pm daily
Time the shelter is open: 3:30 pm

Open Weekend Program

During the week, The Delores Project is open for overnight shelter, every evening, but usually will close in the daytime. On weekends, trained volunteers, in teams of two, keep the shelter open during the day so that the women can have one day a week where they are able to stay in and relax. Four shifts available.

Student Volunteers

Student Volunteer Program
High school or college students who satisfy a course requirement by volunteering at the shelter. Supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator, these volunteer experiences are designed to meet the needs at the shelter and be appropriate for the volunteer. College undergraduate or graduate students can design and complete a project to benefit the shelter which fits with their academic program requirements.

Other Volunteer Activities
Volunteers occasionally offer arts and crafts, musical, or other experiences for shelter guests. These are arranged and supervised through the
Volunteer Coordinator.
