Part/full Time: Full Time, occasional evening and weekend hours
Pay Rate: $40,000 annual

Report To: Executive Director
The Delores Project is Denver’s largest provider of overnight emergency shelter and transitional shelter for unaccompanied adult women who are homeless. The Delores Project recently completed a $1 million+ capital campaign and relocated to a permanent facility after six years of seasonal operation in borrowed spaces.
The development program is entering a period of expansion, moving from a primarily grants-based funding stream to a comprehensive and diverse base of funders that will provide the operating expenses for the approximately $600,000 budget, with special emphasis in increasing funds raised from individuals. As part of the development program, The Delores Project also intends to build an enhanced communications/marketing component in order to maintain and increase community education and support, including financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteers. The Development Director will be primarily responsible for these functions with partnership and hands-on support from the Executive Director.
Essential Tasks:
- With Executive Director, develop and implement annual and long range fundraising and marketing plans to meet organizational budget and community outreach goals;
- Develop and manage individual fundraising program, including direct mail and e-giving strategies; support Executive Director in development and management of major donor program;
- Oversee management of database; utilize Donor Perfect for donor maintenance, including reporting, gift processing, donor histories etc. Participate in training together with the Volunteer Director to ensure accurate data entry and consistent record keeping;
- Develop and submit grant proposals on deadline for funds from private foundations, corporations, faith communities and local government;
- Prepare evaluations and reports of fundraising activities and organizational accomplishments for funders, The Delores Project Board of Directors and the community;
- Write, edit and develop all external communications and public relations tools, including website, e-newsletters, printed newsletter, annual report, brochures;
- Provide leadership for the Art Show, TDP annual fundraiser, and oversee volunteer committee;
- Represent The Delores Project at public speaking engagements;
- Assure active stewardship program for all funding categories, including donor recognition and timely gift acknowledgements;
- Participate in The Delores Project collaborative networks, including Denver’s Road Home and Community Shares of Colorado;
- Actively participate in Leadership Team, consisting of Executive, Volunteer, Project and Development Directors; attend and participate in staff trainings, monthly staff meetings, and other staff activities as appropriate;
Ideal candidate will possess and/or demonstrate the following:
- Bachelors Degree, at minimum;
- minimum 2-4 years professional development experience; experience in successful grant writing preferred;
- initiative, positive energy, outgoing nature and capacity to enjoy meeting challenges;
- impeccable verbal and written communication skills, both persuasive and analytical; be comfortable with speaking before diverse groups and in social settings;
- high level organizational skills, with ability to create and monitor plans and timelines;
- some experience with donor databases, Donor Perfect preferred;
- some knowledge of Denver funding community;
- understanding of basic marketing skills and strategies; ability to assess audience and respond quickly, as appropriate
- understanding of and/or be willing to learn and abide by basic professional fundraising ethics and principles, as defined by the Association of Professional Fundraisers;
- ability to work professionally and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and skills in a team environment;
- interest in issues of poverty and homelessness, particularly as they affect women’s experiences;
- experience in desktop publishing and/or website maintenance helpful.
