The Delores Project provides a safe place to sleep
for women who are homeless in Denver, Colorado.
The women of Delores come from all walks of life.
Most live in poverty and all are experiencing homelessness. Delores
shelters over 300 single adult homeless women each year, all who are
looking for a safe place to sleep. Women who are unable to access
safe shelter often sleep in parks, under bridges, on loading docks,
in hospital waiting rooms and in other circumstances that put them
at grave risk. Many women served at Delores have serious barriers to
getting their own urgent needs met. Women who wait and hope for
housing, and who often have serious barriers to accessing what is
currently available, are at daily risk of harm or death. The Delores
Project provides a safe, comfortable, inviting place to stay while
the women look for more permanent options for housing.
The Delores Project is expanding the number of
women we can serve by acquiring and renovating a permanent home that has become a
year-round shelter for homeless women. The Delores Project renovatated a 6,100 square foot building and
constructed a 2,000 square foot addition. This new building
allows The Delores Project to shelter up to 50 women, withoverflow space for an additional 25 women in times of severe weather. The
Delores Project expansion project is proud to be a part of Denver's
Road Home Project ( Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness) by
increasing the number of beds available for homeless women. The Delores Project completed construction and moved into the new shelter on December 20, 2006. to view pictures of our new home, click here . |
